In conjunction with the touring art show (which we launched at the Storyopolis Gallery last month), The Coppervale Studio had begun producing sets of high-quality, limited-edition art prints based on the original illustrations from HERE, THERE BE DRAGONS.
The first one, The Green Dragon, is the cover image, sans logo. A lot of people realized there was more to the drawing, and those queries inspired the print. We followed that one with prints of Aven, The Cartographer, and Samaranth. These are done at original size, as I drew them. And don’t worry if your favorite piece isn’t here - we’ll be doing all twenty-four chapter illustrations as prints sometime over the next couple of months.

For the second year running, I’ve been invited to be a guest at the Chino Family Festival of Books, just east of Los Angeles. I’ll be there from 11 to 2, and I’ll be signing, sketching, and selling prints. After, I’m doing stock signings at the Barnes & Noble at Montclair Plaza, and Compass Books in Anaheim. Hope to see any LA area readers there!

The two current novels get a nice nod from a reviewer at Green Man Review:
*****
Faith also had a chance to check out James Owen’s Here There be Dragons and its sequel, The Search for the Red Dragon. Faith says the series starts off with a bang: ‘I suspect it’s the sort of book you can re-read multiple times from different perspectives, trying to see what clues you will pick up that you missed before. . . . It’s a real rip-roaring page-turner. It’s fast-paced and covers a wide canvas, geographically, historically and culturally.’ And the second book is up to snuff: ‘I think it was very sensible of Owen to separate the two stories by nine years. After all, we know that in our reality the main characters did not have long mysterious periods of absence. They are, after all, real people, and their lives are catalogued in minute detail in many other sources.’ So, two thumbs up for these two books.

Love to see anybody that can come out to one of the stops!
Finding out that James Langton (who read Lloyd Alexander’s PRYDAIN books) would be doing the audio versions of my novels was a delight; but actually hearing them come to life is amazing. I finally get what Neil Gaiman’s always talked about regarding the readings his friend Lenny Henry does of his books.
For your audio pleasure, I present the sample clips now online:
HERE, THERE BE DRAGONS
and
THE SEARCH FOR THE RED DRAGON
(The links take you to the S&S page where you can choose a format).
Gorgeous stuff.
It’s snowing, as it was last night, which took out the power, so I’m still writing today, instead of drawing and doing admin stuff, which will come tomorrow.
But.
We’re putting up the Christmas lights, and I just got the following review from my publicist:
http://www.the-trades.com/article.php?id=6106
…which includes this quote:
“…The Search for the Red Dragon, is the literary equivalent of a game of dominoes, played at the masters level by a champion who is both a mathematician and an artist, with the result being a pattern of beauty and elegance.”
…which is for this book, out on January 1.

I know a lot of authors (myself sometimes included) who say you shouldn’t believe your good reviews anymore than you do the bad ones, but I have to decide to disagree.
Bad reviews are written by people who are never going to be your audience. Good reviews are written by YOUR PEOPLE. The ones you WANT to find, and hold on to. Because those are the readers you’ll be keeping throughout your career.
